Pumpkins- Not Just for Carving and Pies!

 Pumpkins have fabulous natural skincare qualities, so stock up on some pumpkin not just in your pantry, but for your bathroom as well!

Fall brings out the cooler weather and pumpkin patches start popping up everywhere.  With Halloween upon us, and Thanksgiving knocking on the door, it’s time to get the pumpkin out of the pantry for some baking.  Pies, breads and cookies galore, but have you ever discovered the benefits pumpkin has in store for your skin?

  • Pumpkin is high in Vitamins A and C, natural anti-oxidants and Zinc.
  • It is high in natural Alpha-Hydroxy Acids so it has a natural ‘sloughing’ quality to it, removing dead skin and giving the skin a natural glow.
  • Rich in fiber and minerals that keep the skin soft and supple and can help treat dryness.
  • Natural enzymes in pumpkin can make the skin appear smoother and younger.
  • Natural ingredients can help repair the damage of acne on skin.

Try this fabulous pumpkin mask for a Fall treat for your skin:

Ingredients
2 teaspoons cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed
one-half teaspoon honey (humectant, regenerative)
one-quarter  teaspoon milk (alpha hydroxy acid, enzymes digest skin  cells)
For Dry skin– Add one-quarter teaspoon Heavy Cream (great moisturizing capabilities)
For Oily skin– Add one-quarter teaspoon Apple Cider (alpha hydroxy acid- regulates ph)

 

Mix all ingredients together.  Apply to your face avoiding your eye area.  Sit back, close your eyes and relax for 10-15 minutes while your mask gently exfoliates dead skin cells, and rejuvenates your skin, allowing new fresh and renewed skin to shine through.   Rinse with warm water, then follow with a dose of your favorite moisturizer.  I prefer doing this mask in the evening, so I can lather on my favorite Night Cream and allow all the benefits of the mask to soak in while I sleep.

GREAT Body Scrub:

one half cup of cooked or canned pumpkin. pureed 
one cup sugar or brown sugar
 

Standing in the shower, scoop handfuls of the mixture over your body, scrubbing it into your skin.  The sugar will act as a natural exfoliant and the pumpkin will pack your skin with all those fabulous anti-oxidants, leaving behind a fabulous glow.  You’ll swear you just stepped out of a fancy spa!
