Do you really need to spend a fortune on mascara to get a good one? Are there any inexpensive mascaras that deliver? You betcha!
Mascara is my passion- or maybe my obsession. I am constantly on the hunt for a good mascara. I am certain I’ve spent a fortune on them over the years. The one thing I have discovered is that expensive doesn’t always mean better!
For years I worked as a Cosmetics Manager for an upscale store selling the high-end lines, Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, Dior, etc. I tried every Lancome mascara that came through our doors and never found one I liked. They were all over $20 a tube and yet, I found much cheaper ones I liked better. To this day, I have never liked a mascara launched by Lancome. So beware that a higher price tag doesn’t always mean you are getting a better product.
Here are 3 examples of fabulous mascaras under $10 a tube.
- Maybelline Stiletto- This gets 3.5 out of 5 stars from me. It really lengthens lashes. If you have really thin lashes it isn’t the most ideal mascara, but it goes on really nice, no clumping and doesn’t flake. Approx $7.99 in drugstores everywhere.
- Maybelline’s Falsies – This one really is one of my favorites. Not a huge fan of the brush, but the formula itself is a winner! Nice full lashes, no clumping and easy to apply. The waterproof formula is great, and doesn’t adhere so tightly that you have to scrub to get it off. Approx. $5.99 and available in most drugstores 4.5 out of 5 stars from me!
- Rimmel Extra Super Lash- This one really packs a punch for the price! If you are someone who rarely wears mascara, and only uses it every now and then and on special occasions, I highly recommend this one. Just $3.00 a tube – I know, RIGHT? THREE dollars a tube ladies! It doesn’t flake, or clump and it creates nice full lashes. Comes with a decent brush too. 4 out of 5 stars from me. Available at most Target and Wal-Mart.
Now if you really want to splurge on yourself head over to Makeup Forever. Their Smoky Lash is one of the expensive mascaras that I think definitely is worth its weight in gold so to speak.
It has my favorite brush on any mascara- nice and full and just glides on lashes. The result is full gorgeous defined eyes. My only complaint is that it seems to dry up quicker than I would expect it to. But if you’re going to splurge on mascara, this is the one! Approx. $24, available at Makeup Forever stores and select stores. 4.5 out of 5 stars from me!
