Airbrush Makeup Made So Easy
23 Mar
Airbrush makeup is all the rage, well, for some anyway. Most makeup artists, not all, are skilled in the techniques of airbrushing a flawless finish onto actors, actresses and brides a like.
So what is the secret? There really isn’t one. Airbrush makeups are typically 80% water and little pigment so they can go through the airbrush without clogging the needle. A watered down version of a liquid makeup so to speak, applied with a circular motion. Application can be a little tricky, and I’ve seen plenty of makeup artists who just don’t cut it when it comes to airbrushing. There’s a fine line to getting the application “just right”! Some either over airbrush and use way too much product, or they under airbrush getting a look that’s not only natural, but stills shows plenty of natural flaws as well.
So what’s a girl to do when she really wants a beautiful airbrush look without buying all the fancy schmancy equipment? Turn to my favorite foundation available today! Hands down, this is my very favorite. Yes, I own an airbrush, and it goes to Set with me on every project, but at least 80% of the time I turn to Era when choosing my foundations. It retails for $55 a can, but worth every penny you’ll spend!
I used it on Garth Brooks, More Than a Memory music video. Garth was subjected to an 18 hour shoot where he was completely under water the entire time. I needed something that was going to hold up under all that water and keep him looking good for all those close-ups. Era delivered the entire 18 hours of that shoot!
When shooting Bob Seger’s Wait For Me music video, I needed something that wasn’t going to slide right off Bob’s face. We were shooting in Lancaster, California in the 118 degree July heat. I knew keeping him dry was going to be a challenge, so I turned to Era once again, and yet again, it held up perfectly.
It is the only Body Makeup I carry in my kit anymore. Quick and easy application that I can do “on set” if necessary. Winter white legs are never a worry for actresses on my set. I use the original Era Face formula, but they now make it in an Everyday formula that retails for $33 and is just as good. A little lighter formula, I love it for teens and men.
Now, I have to give you one little pointer- DON’T spray it straight from the can. I know that’s how it was intended to be used, but I think you use way too much product and it gets everywhere. I like to add 2 sprays to a small palette and apply it with a foundation brush. It actually goes on really well with a flat sided kabuki brush. You can get a full face application in less than 60 seconds. I challenge any makeup artist to do that with a conventional airbrush any day of the week.
So girls if you’re looking for a Flawless Finish airbrushed look, head over to Era. And check out their Pink Topaz bronzer. I LOVE it! I actually mist it on a cheek brush and stipple it over the cheekbone. It gives gorgeous color to the cheeks.
Stay Gorgeous Girls…..
